We, European theological librarians, look on in dismay at what is happening in Ukraine. We hope that the Russian Government will soon come to realise that war, and this war, in particular, has only losers. Our sympathy goes to the Ukrainian people and to our colleagues. We hope that they will be able to continue their work. After all, is not the core task of a librarian – to provide complete and impartial information – more necessary than ever? Let us therefore not forget our colleagues but encourage them to persevere.

Nous, bibliothécaires théologiques européens, regardons avec consternation ce qui se passe en Ukraine. Nous espérons que le gouvernement russe se rendra bientôt compte que la guerre, et cette guerre en particulier, n’a que des perdants. Notre sympathie va au peuple ukrainien et à nos collègues. Nous espérons qu’ils seront en mesure de poursuivre leur travail. Après tout, la tâche essentielle d’un bibliothécaire – fournir des informations complètes et impartiales – n’est-elle pas plus nécessaire que jamais ? Nous n’oublions donc pas nos collègues et les encourageons à persévérer.

Wir, die europäischen theologischen Bibliothekare, sehen mit Bestürzung auf das, was in der Ukraine geschieht. Wir hoffen, dass die russische Regierung bald erkennt, dass es im Krieg, und insbesondere in diesem Krieg, nur Verlierer gibt. Unser Mitgefühl gilt dem ukrainischen Volk und unseren Kollegen. Wir hoffen, dass sie ihre Arbeit fortsetzen können. Denn ist nicht die Kernaufgabe eines Bibliothekars – die Bereitstellung vollständiger und unparteiischer Informationen – notwendiger denn je? Lassen wir daher unsere Kollegen nicht in Vergessenheit geraten, sondern ermutigen wir sie, durchzuhalten.

Noi, bibliotecari europei di teologia, guardiamo con sgomento quanto sta accadendo in Ucraina. Ci auguriamo che il governo russo si renda presto conto che la guerra, e questa guerra in particolare, ha solo vittime. La nostra solidarietà va al popolo ucraino e ai nostri colleghi. Ci auguriamo che possano continuare il loro lavoro. Dopotutto, il compito essenziale di un bibliotecario – fornire informazioni complete e imparziali – non è più necessario che mai? Non dimentichiamo i nostri colleghi e li incoraggiamo a perseverare.
